Sometimes life gets complicated. How we handle that can make all the difference in the world. Psychotherapy can help you find the answers you seek and help to move you to the next phase of your life. Deep and lasting change is possible through therapy - I have seen it happen many times.
People come to therapy to work a variety of issues, including depression, grief, anxiety and substance and process addictions (like sex, spending, porn, etc). I work collaboratively and mindfully with each person, helping you to better understand yourself and meet your goals. My psychodynamic training helps me to help you by getting to the deeply-seated core issues that might be holding you back, and by helping you to find ways to create lasting change in your life.
In addition, my previous experience as a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), as well as my professional experience in treating addictions at the UCLA Dual Diagnosis program, provides a 12-Step based and/or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) model that emphasizes cognitive and behavioral work and recognizes the importance of stopping harmful behaviors and creating change in the here and now. This is often necessary in order to create a space to do deeper, insight-oriented work.
Practicing mindfulness cultivates a capacity to observe thoughts, emotions and feelings in a different way, and to gain insight into patterns that have shaped, and continue to shape, thoughts and feelings, and our very identity. This is not separate from either cognitive-behavioral or insight-oriented schools of thought, and informs my therapy practice in many ways.
